Deborah Biggs Music Tuition

A big WELCOME to all new DBMT students starting lessons in September! Looking forward to getting to know you all

Deborah Biggs Music Tuition (DBMT) is a private teaching business offering expert instrumental tuition throughout Cambridgeshire. I started teaching at university back in 1997 and, since then, I have progressed to teach a variety of instruments to all age ranges.

I hold a degree in music and am currently the principal clarinettist for the RAF Wyton Area Voluntary Band as well as lead saxophonist for 'Rhythm In Blue', the RAF Wyton Big Band. I recently played principal trumpet in the St Ives Centre Players production of 'The Boyfriend' at Burgess Hall, St Ives, followed two weeks later by 2nd trumpet for Bernstein's 'West Side Story' at Hinchingbrooke Performing Arts Centre in Huntingdon. My most recent show was the Centre Players production of 'Beauty and the Beast' at Burgess Hall, for which I again played principal trumpet and alto saxophone.

Alongside clarinet, saxophone and trumpet I also play flute, piano and percussion (including drum kit) and I enjoy doing occasional session work with various bands and orchestras on a freelance basis around Cambridgeshire and the South East.

As a pianist, recent bookings have seen me playing at the RAF Wyton Sergeant's Mess both for their Summer Ball in July 2010, the same event in 2009 and again at a Ladies Guest Night last November. I also play in the Officer's Mess for various dinners and functions, most recently at the 'Pathfinder Sunday' lunch for the 5th consecutive year. Prior to that I played at both a Royal Navy Dining Out dinner in July 2010 and at the Officer's Mess Christmas Ball in December 2009. On New Year's Eve 2009 I played at The Poacher in Elsworth and I will be playing at various functions throughout the rest of 2010. More details on my work as a pianist will soon be available so please do watch this space!

Playing out as regularly as I do ensures that my technique is constantly being improved - even teachers have to practise! - thus ensuring that I maintain a high level of musicianship and ability. I recently recorded Rimsky-Korsakoff's 'Flight of the Bumblebee' with the Wyton Band which was, for me, one of the highlights of my performing career...challenged for the top spot only perhaps by my performance of Mozart's famous Clarinet Concerto on stage with a full orchestra a few years previously! I will be performing 'Clarinet on the Town' in concert with the Wyton Band at various concert venues over the coming weeks.

I have spent time writing and arranging music as well as teaching over the past 10 years and am constantly seen (well, heard!) making a noise with something! I am married to a trombone player so home is, as you can imagine, a pretty noisy but very musical place to be, not least since we bought a violin the other week just for something new to try...

Music is, quite honestly, my life and I can think of no better career than helping others to learn and understand how music can enhance their lives too. I look forward to hearing from you - let's take those first few steps into the world of music and see how things go.
